With all the hype over Kylie products lately, fake and/or imitations have come out everywhere. The Kylie Lip Kit I own was given to me by MakeupPlusPh as my prize for winning their Halloween Look contest. Pretty cool gift huh? Well, I rarely use my Kylie lIp Kit because I don’t go out all that often. So what are the differences between the fake and the authentic products? The authentic Kylie has a noticeable sweet vanilla scent, and the fake one smells terrible. The Real Kylie is very smooth and easy to glide on the lips and it really makes my lips pout/bigger. Even my husband notices it every time I wear it. It’s waterproof and stays looking good the whole day (unless you eat some oily food and it will begin to fade a little bit). I didn’t try the fake product on my lips, but I made some swatches (below).
The original Kylie (on the left) has an engraved number on it while the fake one is just printed. The only thing I don’t like with my Kylie Lip liner is it broke easily when I tried to sharpen it. I thought maybe my sharpener was just old and so I bought a new one. This didn’t solve the problem though.
I purposely bought the fake Kylie Lip Kit online to give you an idea of the difference between authentic and fake. The fake Kylie that I bought online was in gold but there are some items also that look just like the original. Some online resellers will say that their product is “SG Authentic”, in which case it’s surely fake. That’s because real Kylie Lip Kits are made and manufactured in Los Angeles, California USA. However, you can see at the bottom of the tube that they both have the same labeling but different font and font size.
There’s also a big difference between the opening mouth of the tube and the wand.
Original (L) Fake (R)
Kylie Lip Kit is sold for around P1,800 – P2,2000 here in the Philippines while fake Kylie was sold for around P75- P550. The price will also make it pretty easy to tell if it’s fake. But some online resellers will also try to scam you by claiming that their fake products are real and will post pictures of real product online and even set the same price. However once you’ve ordered the item they will send you fake product. Pretty bad…
I created swatches for both of the lipsticks. The real Kylie in Kristen has a nude shade but the fake one is more like a pinkish shade. I also tried to remove them using my Banila Clean It Zero cleanser and the fake one is a little bit hard to remove compared to the original. However, that doesn’t mean it’s a good product. We might not know if it contains dangerous chemicals that could damage our lips. I would advise you to always be careful when purchasing makeup (or anything) online, or any time you can’t see the actual items as you are purchasing them.
That’s it for now. I will also review some other brands like Nyx and Revlon. Have you ever bought something online and thought it was original product and got duped? Share your experience in the comments!
